THE LOST WAX PROCESS (CIRE PERDUE)


1. The artist create the original sculpture in clay or in wax. This take time depending how much detailed the sculpture is.

5. The wax positive now will be covered with a ceramic shell for preparation for lost wax procedure.

2. A positive silicon cast will be now be made from the original sculpture , which is called the negative copy.


6. The ceramic covered wax positive is now burnt to a kiln and the wax is melted.This is called 'Lost Wax Cast Method'.

3. From the rubber mold a exact replica can now be made by pouring melted wax on the cast to create a positive copy.


7. The negative ceramic mold now is ready for bronze casting, A melted bronze is now poured on the open cavity.

4. The wax positive will now go to a wax chasing and spruing process in which the artist repair imperpections and add wax sprue to insure proper casting.


8. When the bronze cooled, The ceramic shell is broken/chipped and repair imperfections. The bronze sculpture is now ready for coloring (Patination).
